Intent
Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
At Ingham Primary School children are taught to design purposeful, functional and appealing products, be resourceful and innovative in selecting and using appropriate tools and materials safely and effectively to make a product and evaluate past and present
technology, its uses and impact on society. Every child will have the opportunity to use what they have learnt across other subjects and extend their understanding, experience and application in the use of technology, including I.C.T, in a variety of situations. In Design and Technology we encourage thinkers as individuals and as part of a team.

Implementation
We follow clear and comprehensive units of work (following the National Curriculum) which enable progression throughout the school and coverage in all areas including textiles, technical knowledge and cooking and nutrition. Delivery follows the research, design,
make (including prototypes) and evaluate process. Children communicate their understanding in a range of ways (such as verbal and written explanations of how things work, labelled drawings, cross-sections, CAD and prototypes) so that teachers can evidence what their pupils can do and understand.

Impact
Children will be able to apply their knowledge from other subjects such as science. As they know more, they can understand more and do more within the subject of D &T, this will be demonstrated by relevant and effective choices of tools, materials and techniques.  Children will develop attributes that they can use beyond school and childhood.
